Rider alert: Pairs to watch at Red Hills this weekend Events

Red Hills International Horse Trials kicks off on Friday, with dressage for all divisions. On Saturday, the CIC3* is show jumping, followed by the cross-country for all divisions and on Sunday, the CIC2*, CIC1* and the Preliminary through to Advanced divisions are show jumping. Michael Jung is number one in the FEI world rankings Riders

Michael Jung makes debut at Eventing world number one Michael Jung (GER), who in 2012 became the first Eventing athlete to hold the European, world and Olympic titles simultaneously after scoring individual and team gold at the London 2012 Olympic Games, has jumped to the top of the FEI World Eventing Rankings for the first time in his career. As all eventers know too well, it is an excruciatingly rare to a non-existent occurrence to compete at an event without some type of a hitch, things are simply never 100-percent perfect. Can Thoroughbreds still win at the CCI4* level? Events

The Thoroughbreds at Rolex Kentucky this past weekend did not demonstrate a level of competitiveness that could get them on the podium. When the final penalty points were tallied, Donner the OTTB piloted by Lynn Symansky was the top placing Thoroughbred in 12th place. After putting in a respectable dressage score of 52.7 and starting in 32nd place, the pair steadily moved up the leaderboard. To their dressage score they added time penalties on cross-country and one rail in stadium to end the weekend on a final score of 67.5. One might think that 12th is a competitive placing, however,…
