Rider alert: Pairs to watch at Red Hills this weekend Events

Red Hills International Horse Trials kicks off on Friday, with dressage for all divisions. Derek di Grazia’s cross-country course at The Jaguar Land Rover Bromont CCI3* ran relatively problem free on Saturday, Three new pairs (Emily Beshear and Shame on the Moon; Matthew Brown and Super Socks BCF; and Waylon Roberts and Kelecyn Cognac) enter the Bromont record books joining eight riders in the past five years to make time at Bromont with the only male rider of the group being Canada’s Cody Sturgess and his mare Imperial Meloday. Michael Jung makes debut at Eventing world number one Michael Jung (GER), who in 2012 became the first Eventing athlete to hold the European, world and Olympic titles simultaneously after scoring individual and team gold at the London 2012 Olympic Games, has jumped to the top of the FEI World Eventing Rankings for the first time in his career. April Simmonds (CAN) is making her mark on the international leaderboards despite the fact that she is only 17 years old and technically a ‘Junior’ rider. We had a chance a few weeks ago to sit down and speak with Lauren Kieffer, her parents and David O’Connor about Lauren’s partnership with Veronica and her start in the O’Connor program. Lauren and Veronica just completed their cross-country round at Pau today. Opting to take some long routes, they finished safely with time and are sitting in the top 10.
