Alhambra Fall Event & Alberta Championships Wrap Up

This past weekend saw the sad end of our short but sweet eventing season here in Alberta.  Alhambra Stables in Red Deer, Alberta hosted the final event of the season and also the provincial Championships, with over 150 horse and rider pairs attending.. While the weather was lovely for the event on the weekend, the couple weeks leading up were a bit of a nightmare as mother nature surprised us with cold temperatures and a large dump of snow, putting a damper on the event preparation.  Cross country course designer Barry Tyerman had a bit of an adventure trying to…

Plantation Field – Results wrap up

Certainly not a dressage show, Plantation Field was a true Eventing competition with the leader board shuffling until the last horse crossed the finish line. Each phase clearly revealed the strengths and weaknesses of each horse and rider combination. In the end, the pairs that did reasonably well in dressage, jumped clear and made time earned the top placings. There were seven divisions and three of them were won by riders that were in first place after dressage and kept the pole position throughout the weekend (highlighted in bold): CIC1* – Paige Crotty on Cooley Dawn Raid CIC2* – Buck…

Caption contest: Dutton’s stadium gymnastic exercise

Phillip Dutton is one of the world’s top riders and his skills continue to impress riders and spectators alike. Taking down a rail riding I’m Sew Ready in the CIC3* at the first jump on Saturday at Plantation International Horse Trials it appears like he was just setting up a gymnastic exercise. The sacrificial first jump sharpened up I’m Sew Ready and they didn’t touch another pole. Caption contest Time for you to humour us with what was going through Phillip’s mind over the gymnastic pole. Just add your clever caption to the comments section below. We will narrow it…

Open Preliminary – Curtis Barbour jumps into first

Open Preliminary A leader board shake up switched up the order and a clear round was a little harder to deliver in the Open Preliminary division at the Ontario Championships. After an excellent recovery from a deep spot on the first jump, Curtis Barbour on Free Trade was crowned champion with a clear round finishing on 61.30. Ian Roberts on Copper Cove jumped up from fifth to second with a clear round overall just adding .8 to their dressage score to finish on 62.4. But he also dropped from second to fifth on Cnoc after they had a stop. Frankie…
