Jog is complete – Fashion cops are handing out fines

The Dutta Corp. Fair Hill International has begun. The jog was today and the riders were presenting in an orderly but quick fashion as the weather was wet. Luckily, it was warm and during the jog the few down pours were short lived. The ground jury was in a real “holding” kind of mood and six out of the 112 horses presented were held in the CCI2* and two will not be competing this weekend. Calvin Ramsey withdrew Flintstar from the holding box. After a conversation with the ground jury, April Simmonds and Impressively done were eliminated. Unfortunately, Impressively Done…

Fair Hill draw posted – Riders still on wait list in CCI2*

The draw is done and the riders can now make their plan of attack depending on where they are in the order for the Dutta Corp. Fair Hill International CCI2* and CCI3*. Marilyn Little on RF West Indie are the lucky pair to start the field off on Wednesday. If history is any indicator, this pair will set the stage with a very competitive dressage test that will have the rest of the field working hard to best it. The majority of the Canadians in the CCI2*  are in the top half of the draw. With 122 horses in the…

Fair Hill prep with the Canadians

Fair Hill week is here and we will be reporting daily on the action as the Eventing Connect group is attending as riders and fans. Many of the Canadian riders arrived a few days early to Ronald Zabala-Goetschel’s Wise Guy Farm to ride in a two day clinic with Clayton Fredericks, Canadian team coach. They will be working to put the finishing touches on dressage tests and run though some final jump schools. The clinic began Sunday with a 7:00 am jog up of all the horses. Clayton took the time to work with each rider to ensure that they…

Gina Miles defies gravity then puts bridle back on while mounted

Gina Miles was not going to be outdone by Avery Klunick’s performance last weekend. Gina managed to avoid hitting the dirt after a sensational stop. Her horse S.V.R. Ron wiped out the jump, ended up sitting on its back end like a dog, then spun back on to its legs with Gina hanging on the side of saddle. With incredible strength and balance she rode it out while managing to pull herself back into position and put the bridle on and finish the round. Ride On Video (website) captured this great footage. This is how a Silver Medal winning Olympians stays…

Missing In Action horse found and rider’s job threatened

Follow up from yesterday’s plea for public assistance Missing In Action was never a thought for Jessica Adams when she named her horse Mia. On Sunday morning, the two were separated after a fall at Touch A Rainbow Horse Trials schooling show in North Augusta on the Training level course. Not jump related, the two slipped on the dewy morning grass after a jump. Mia came right down on her rider and Jessica is completely bruised down…

True national championship or ‘B’ team finals?

The 2014 Nutrena American Eventing Championships did not fall short on prizes but it did fall short on entries. Only 392 competitors were in Tyler, Texas competing to be one of this year’s national champions. That is 174 less than in 2012 when the event was held at Chattahoochee Hills in Fairburn, Georgia. When the best in the country do not show up, is this truly a national championship or just a horse trial with great prizes? Missing top riders Glancing over the AEC results you cannot help but notice the absence of the top North American riders. With the…
