2019 Ocala Jockey Club 3-Day Event First Horse Inspection Report: 131 horses looking fit to perform
Kicking off this afternoon on a cool and windy day for sunny Florida, the 2019 Ocala Jockey Club 3-Day Event (OJC3DE) held the first horse inspection for the CCI4*-L, CCI3*-L and CCI2*-L divisions. Despite the gusts and brisk temperatures many horses presented.
All 32 horses in the CCI4*-L that were presented to the Ground Jury of President, Christian Landolt (SUI), Gretchen Butts (USA), and Helen Brettell (GBR) and Dr Nancy Carr (USA) in the CCI4*-L were accepted as fit to compete. No horses were held or asked to represent in this division.
In the CCI3*-L, 29 horses were presented and 28 were accepted. Joe Meyer’s (NZL) ride, Gortglas Crazy Love was sent to the hold box and subsequently spun after representing. Emily Beshear (USA) was also held with her mount, Deal With It, but were accepted after representing. Charlotte Babbit’s (USA) 2 A.M. and Katherine Brown’s (USA) Carnaby were both asked to jog twice and were accepted after their second trip down the jog lane without any problems. The Ground Jury in the CCI3-L was the same as in the CCI4*-L.
An impressive 71 horses came in front of the CCI2*-L Ground Jury of President, Peter Gray (CAN), Nikki Herbert and Dr Nancy Carr with all being ultimately accepted. Natasha Erschen (USA) and Chai Tea Latte were held but accepted after representing. Lesley Grant Law (CAN) jogged Typically Fernhill for her husband, Leslie Law (GBR), and were asked to jog twice before being accepted. Kirsten Schuitema’s (USA) One Sly Fox was also asked to jog a second time before passing. Meanwhile, Isabelle Bosley’s Night Quality deserves a special bravery award for keeping his cool when all of the decorative trees and flowers blew over at the end of the jog lane as he was heading towards them.
