Simple but game-changing grooming tip: The most critical yet underrated brush box item

Your average equestrian spends more time grooming horses than riding them. Over the years we all learn new, exciting and revolutionary grooming tips and tactics. Check back regularly for more grooming tips as we are on the hunt for the best.

We asked our readers to share their expert grooming tips and they have not disappointed. Chloe Abbajay submitted a tip that is a solid reminder for anyone who works with horses:

Scissors should always be in your groom box and in an easy to reach place! While you may think this would be obvious, I’ve had so many people come up begging me to let them borrow my sharp scissors. Whether you need to cut bailing twine off of a new bale or trim your horse’s tail – scissors are a must.

Here are just a few of the critical jobs that scissors can complete:

  • Mane/tail trimming
  • Opening a variety of packaging
  • Tidying up long fetlock hairs
  • Cutting braiding yarn
  • Sizing gauze or other medical bandages

So what are you waiting for? Invest in a pair of scissors or two! It is a great idea if you travel with horses to keep a pair in your brush box at the barn and one in your horse trailer. You’ll thank yourself!
