Boyd Martin and Kitty King tie for the lead – Luhmühlen CCI4* Thursday report

Today, the 2018 Luhmühlen CCI4* action kicked off with the first day of dressage. Boyd Martin (USA) with Shamwari 4 and Kitty King (GBR) with Ceylor LAN are currently tied for pole position on a score 27.40.

Kitty King was particularly pleased with her horse’s performance, who has not competed in a big event since the Olympic Games in Rio 2016:

He has performed really well for me today and I could not have
asked for more!

Boyd Martin was equally thrilled with his mount. He has been working with a new coach and they managed to really improve Shamwari’s canter work, which Boyd felt made a big difference today.

Rounding out the top three is Vittoria Panizzon (ITA) and Chequers Play on a score of 28.1. This is the horse’s first four-star this weekend, making Vittoria extremely proud of how well he delivered throughout their test. She said:

Only one of the flying changes didn’t quite turn out as planned, but the rest was brilliant. He has a fabulous walk, which earned us three nines from the judges – definitely something to be proud of!

Vittoria Panizzon & Chequers Play The Game

All three of the top riders felt this year’s CCI4* course will ask plenty of questions of horses and riders, requiring full concentration and accurate riding throughout. With technical challenges and massive fences, this course is everything you would expect from a true four-star course.

Vittoria Panizzon sums up the cross-country track saying:

I’m so excited to ride this beautifully built course and looking forward to Saturday.
