Andrew Nicholson withdraws from Badminton

Doubting his fitness after competing four horses at the advanced level over the weekend and feeling very tired, Andrew has made the difficult decision to reroute to other challenging competitions later in the season.

Andrew said to the Horse and Hound, “I successfully rode four horses in the advanced at Withington on Sunday, all of whom won prizes, but was aware I felt fatigued by the end of the seven-minute cross-country course. It would therefore not be sensible to attempt an 11½-minute course at Badminton.”

Andrew suffered a neck injury after falling from Cillnabradden Evo at the final fence on cross country at the CIC3* at the Festival of British Eventing in August. After a delicate surgery with the odds against him, he has made an astounding recovery.

We are disappointed to see Andrew withdraw his longtime partner Nereo. This certainly makes the road to the Rolex Grand Slam a little easier for Michael Jung as Andrew and Nereo in top form could have been serious contenders.

We can look forward to seeing Andrew out at the new and exciting Event Rider Master series that will begin at Chatsworth May 14 to 15th.
