Hartpury: Burton wins, the Prices take 2nd and 3rd

Christopher Burton on his WEG mount took the win with a 44.2, finishing on his dressage score at the NAF Five Star International Hartpury Horse Trials CIC3*. Tim Price on Wesko his WEG mount finished second and his, wife Jonelle Price on Classic Moet took third with a 48.7. Both Tim and Jonelle will be competing at WEG.

Burton and Jonelle Price were the only two to make the time on Eric Winter’s updated course.

Firm ground was a concern for William Fox Pitt riding Parklane Hawk and he mentioned on his website that he might not run Parker despite being in a comfortable lead after stadium with 35.2. However, with a string of top horses he was able to take fourth place on his other mount, Avoca Alibi with a 53.9.

Many WEG riders at Hartpury were giving their mounts one last run before the big show down at Normandy in a couple of weeks, and this likely accounted for many of them accumulating time on cross-country.

Robinson vs Barry
Interestingly, Kathryn Robinson who was removed from the Canadian WEG team because she didn’t complete her declaration paperwork went head to head on her home turf with Peter Barry her WEG replacement.

Kathryn on Let It Bee finished in 10th place on a 55.9 in a very competitive field. She added a rail and 5.6 in time on cross-country.

Peter Barry on Kilrodan Abbot went clear in stadium but had 20 jumping penalities on cross country and 32 in time to finish in 58th place with 110.3. Peter’s last outing with this horse at Rolex also resulted with 20 jumping penalites and time on cross-country.

Mike Winter bucks the trend and wears helmet
Reviewing the video and pictures, not many riders wore helmets during the dressage phase. We are a pro-helmet site and if you don’t have your head appropriately protected, you won’t get your dressage pictures here. Shout out to Mike Winter a fellow Canadian who is not too vain to protect his grey matter. Mike finished in 35th place riding Luculls with 71.1.

The CCI1* and CCI2* will wrap up tomorrow with show jumping.
Here are your top 10 heading into stadium for both divisions.
