Best of Burghley cross-country action – VIDEO Break

This year’s cross-county course, ensured once again that Burghley was not a dressage contest. Michael Jung (GER) fell in the first water with Fishcerrocana FST, who was leading after dressage, when she tripped for no apparent reason. Fortunately he had better luck on his Olympic and WEG gold medal-winning mount, La Biosthetique Sam, and adding only .8 time penalties moving them into the lead after cross-country. A stellar clear show jumping round added a Burghley victory to Michael and Sam’s long list of accomplishments. In under two weeks the Best. Event. Ever. (aka Plantation Field International) will commence in Unionville, Pennsylvania. If you have never attended Plantation than your life is not yet complete. This is a world class event and it is super fun whether you are a competitor or spectator. Competition at Plantation is always fierce, with many riders using the CIC3* and CIC2* divisions as final prep for the Fair Hill International CCI2* and CCI3* in October. Michael Jung and Fischerrocana FST’s Burghley leading dressage test – VIDEO Break

Currently at Burghley, Michael Jung and Fischerrocana FST are in a tie for first place with William Fox-Pitt and Fernhill Pimms, both on a score of 34.2 after dressage. Burghley has never been a dressage show in the past and the cross-country course looks as big as always again this year. This tie between two of the most famous riders in the field will make for an exciting cross-country day tomorrow. Fischerrocana FST has three CCI4* completions under her belt and has been in the top two at all three of them. This will be Fernhill Pimms first attempt at the CCI4*…

Millstreet International Horse Trials action – VIDEO Break

Over the weekend, riders competed throughout five different FEI divisions for €27,000 in prize money, at Millstreet International Horse Trials, in Ireland. Jesse Campbell (NZL) won the CIC3* on Kaapachino and the CIC2* on Cleveland. The CIC1* was won by Isabelle Upton (GBR) and Fernhill Rockstar, Nicky Roncoroni (GBR) and Templemartin Flight won the CIC1* for 6-year-olds, Tim Price (NZL) and Kindred Spirit II won the CIC2* for 7-year-olds. Burghley 1989 – VIDEO Break

Today, marks the start of the 2015 Land Rover Burghley Horse Trials CCI4* with the first horse inspection taking place at 4:oo PM BST (or 11:00 AM EST). Ginny Leng (GBR) and Master Craftsman won Burghley in 1989 and this competition was also the European Eventing Championships. Team gold was won by the British, the Dutch won silver, and the Irish took home team bronze medals. Tavel back in time and check out Burghley in 1989. Burghley alternative routes – VIDEO Break

Tomorrow, Land Rover Burghley Horse Trials CCI4* kicks off with riders jogging their mounts up for the Ground Jury at the first horse inspection. The fast routes for the cross-country course were revealed on this flyover video but now we have the chance to see what options riders have on course.
