Top 16 dressage judge comments of 2016

People from all over the world read, Tuesday’s Top 10 – Dressage judge comments scribes were NOT allowed to write in 2015.

Over the last two years, many of our readers shared comments that HAVE actually made it onto dressage tests. There have been so many colourful dressage judge comments, we have enough gems for a series  - Dressage judge comments scribes did write. So far this series has been going for two years strong.

The dressage judges who let their scribes write these comments, certainly were not sugarcoating anything. Thank-you to all the riders who shared these hilarious, real life comments. Despite what a  judge writes on your test, this phase of Eventing remains interesting when the unexpected happens. Thank you to all the good sports who are sharing some of their most humiliating dressage moments with a sense of humour.

Here are the top 22 dressage judge comments scribes were allowed to write:

“Horrible. But he got better after he got spanked.”

So my 5 year old GREEN 17hh pony was refusing to move forward, being new at dressage, I wasn’t sure if I should smack him with the whip in the rear. He was being a total jerk. Finally I cracked his butt and he realized I meant business. – Mason

“Front legs are shorter than hind legs.”

Comment on my daughter and her decidedly downhill built Quarter Horse’s dressage test! – Cathy Wentworth-Stanley

“Shame rider doesn’t have longer legs!”

Absolutely true – written in collective marks. – Beth Whelan

“Horse not under control.”

Well, we did leave the ring, circle behind the judges booth and back into the ring. Eliminated but still got 58%. – Judith Fournier

“Horse and rider are not playing on the same team this test.”

– Ruth Huggins

“Have you thought of taking up knitting.”

 - Beverley Fletcher

“He’s just a country bumpkin come to town.”

I was on my paint horse, who turned into a complete looky loo when we were trying to complete a dressage test in a small, dark roping arena. – Jennie Lawrence

“Do you think you could take some dressage lessons?”

- Marice Smith

“Less motorbikey next time.”

- Phil Stacey

“Nice horse… too bad about the rider.”

- Karen Kraushaar

“Should do a lovely test when he is older and more mature.”

My horse was over 21-years-old at the time. – Pippa Ellis

“Do you have a bucking strap on your saddle? If not you should probably get one.”

My friend got this one. – Lauren Matchett King

“Middle finger at halt.”

My mare like to pretend to be a giraffe and throw tantrums and not want to halt lol. Dressage is not her favorite phase and she makes it known haha. – Nicole A Lowen

“Nice nostrils.”

My mare did a perfectly strait entrance, marred by the fact that her head was up so the judge could see her brain. It wasn’t the best test I rode, but I liked my comments. – Keegan Wallace

“Upset by sheep, stayed on track.”

A sheep appeared out of the bushes next to the dressage arena and spooked the crap out of my horse. – Paul Swart and HJ Eros

“I don’t even know how to score that.”

I was in my first dressage schooling show with my Hunter Under Saddle horse. I thought we did fairly well, but my score sheet was completely blank. The scribe later told me the judge was totally silent through my entire test and after my final salute. – Melanie Robinson

If a judge made a colourful comment on your test please email us.
